Τι είναι τότε αυτός ο μυστηριώδης οργανισμός που σέρνεται κάτω από τα πόδια μας, ελλοχεύει σε σκιερές γωνιές, κρύβεται κάτω από τα πεσμένα φύλλα του δάσους και παραμονεύει στις αυλές μας; Και γιατί διακεκριμένοι επιστήμονες, ερασιτέχνες φυσιοδίφες και πρωτοποριακοί καλλιτέχνες πέφτουν στα πλοκάμια του, μαγεμένοι από την ιδιόμορφη νοημοσύνη και την αλλούτερη όψη του, ικανή να προκαλέσει δέος και ανατριχίλες ταυτόχρονα; Ετοιμαστείτε, λοιπόν, για ένα ντοκιμαντέρ αληθινής επιστημονικής φαντασίας! Ο Tim Grabham και ο Jasper Sharp αναλαμβάνουν να μας αποκαλύψουν τα μυστικά αυτής της αλλόκοτης μορφής ζωής με τη «σαγηνευτική» ονομασία πλασμώδης μυξομύκητας (αγγλιστί, plasmodial slime mould), η οποία βρίσκεται παντού ανάμεσά μας, αλλά οι περισσότεροι αγνοούμε την ύπαρξή της, ενώ μέχρι πρότινος ελάχιστοι είχαν προσπαθήσει να αποκρυπτογραφήσουν τις εκκεντρικές συνήθειές της.
